It was another waiting game for the Surf n Sea Pipeline Women’s Pro, however as time wound down with only one day remaining in the waiting period, a nice spring swell arrived to call on the ASP one star event. The 3-5ft conditions gave the ladies enough face to pull off some hard snaps and to find a few cover ups.
Bethany Hamilton kicked off the first heat on fire, pulling some giant snaps in both directions and snagging a little barrel to take home the Banzai Sushi award for the best tube ride of the day. Moana Jones was kicking her tail right behind the Kauai native and pulled off some great turns to advance.
The second heat went to Lipoa Kahaleuahi from the Big Island who had a strong performance early, but wasn’t able to lock down the score she needed to advance into the semis. Anastasia Ashley who has the best record in the past events so far made it through her first heat but was upset in the semi by Hamilton and Jones.
