Santa Barbara County Fire Department officials reported that part of the Gaviota Pier was damaged over the weekend due to high surf. Fire crews say a portion of the pier has been demolished back to the hoist, and approximately 30 feet of the pier is gone.
The recent California storm brought heavy rain and big swell to the coast, with waves from 6-8ft with occasional 9-10ft in Santa Barbara county. The big swell blasted through windows and interrupted breakfast at Moby Dick restaurant on the pier injuring two restaurant employees. A Santa Barbara local was able to capture the wave engulfing the diner:
