Australian waterman Jamie Mitchell paddled out at Mavericks to score a few good rides the morning of the Body Glove Mavericks Invitational presented by GoPro. With 20-25ft waves coming through the lineup, freesurfers and stand up paddlers alike hunted down the biggest, heaviest waves of the morning.
During one nail-biting ride, however, Mitchell paddled into a bomb next to a stand up paddler, when suddenly the SUP went flying into the air as the rider wiped out nearly on top of him. The SUPer went flying head first into the wave, almost striking Mitchell with his giant SUP. Fortunately, the Aussie charger rode smoothly out of that wave untouched, but definitely got a terrifying wake up call!
