Big Island local Jimmy “Ulu Boi” Napeahi seems like your average Hawaiian on the outside, however, his story is one of miracles. Napeahi was surfing the break in front of his house a few months ago, when one of his family members spotted a shark from the shore.
The shark moved swiftly from one end of the beach to the where Ulu Napeahi and his friends were surfing. Suddenly, Ulu felt one of the hardest hits he had ever felt in his life and immediately knew it was a shark attacj. The shark bit his waist, hamstring and backend. Napeahi fought for his life as the shark continued to thrash him underwater.
Finally, the tussle came to an end when the shark miraculously bit through Ulu’s leash, giving him the chance to escape with the help of a nearby surfer who paddled over to help him onto shore.
Listen to Jimmy ‘Ulu Boi’ Napeahi recount the entire horror story himself in Hurley‘s “Tour Notes” episode:
We are happy to report that Ulu survived the experience and still lives with his family on the Big Island.
