With the surf industry banding together for the same cause, it looks like the introduction of new surf parks in the United States is not just a dream project. The first ever Surf Park Summit was held in Laguna Beach Friday September 13th, when tons of industry personnel met at the Seven Degrees venue for a day full of surf park discussion.
“Surf parks are the future because they’re predictable in terms of generating great waves, and they’ll help the industry revitalize by bringing a whole new generation of surfers into the mix.” – Pete Indelicato Founder, Raised Water Research
Throughout the day, different brands, event coordinators, legendary athletes, and media outlets expressed their support, encouragement and desire to move forward with the advancement of surf parks in the United States.
Bruce McFarland, owner of American Wave Machines, delivered the most exciting announcement that AWM has been contracted to build the world’s largest wave/swell generating pool in history, right next to MetLife Stadium in Meadowlands, New Jersey. Within the project guidelines, they have pledged to deliver a 7.5ft wave in the middle of the pool, offering rides anywhere from 10-12 seconds long. The technology is also capable of delivering a wave frequency as high as one every 6-10 seconds, which is 9-15 times faster than most current systems in use today. Triple Five will be responsible for building the wave generating pool in New Jersey.
