Supertubos held excellent conditions for the Rip Curl Pro Portugal presented by Moche during Rounds 2 & 3 of competition. Julian Wilson (AUS) faced Damien Hobgood (USA) in his Round 3 battle and managed to stomp one of the highest alley-oops in the history of competitive surfing.

“I felt like I bit off a bit more than I could chew when I was in the air on that one, but somehow I pulled it; that section was really, really good,” an ecstatic Wilson said. “At that point of the heat I was really quite nervous, I only had one opportunity to do an air, and I was lucky enough to capitalize on it.”
Following his perfect 10, Wilson went on to solidify an already excellent performance by pulling into a backside barrel.
“That’s the thing I love about competition,” Wilson continued. “You put yourself in those situations where you don’t think about not making it, even for a second. In a freesurf, I probably would have pulled the eject button halfway through the air.”
