The 2013 Battle of the Paddle is celebrating their 6th Anniversary of the stand-up paddle competition on September 28 & 29th, presented by Rainbow Sandals and Pipemaster legend Gerry Lopez. The famous shores of Doheny State Beach will play host to the event in Dana Point, California.
During the event, over 1,000 athletes from around the world will be racing for over $25,000 in cash and prizes, making it the largest winnings on offer in the sport.
This year again there will be heats & finals for the Elite Race. Both men & women Elite Racers will compete in the morning heats and ride 12’6 and under race boards. Top finishers in the morning heats will advance to the afternoon finals.
The Elite Race will feature the world’s best SUP racers including prior champions Danny Ching (Redondo Beach, CA), Conner Baxter (Maui, HI), Chuck Patterson (Dana Point, CA), and Jamie Mitchell (Australia). In the womens category, expect to see past champions Anabel Anderson (New Zealand), Candice Appleby (San Clemente, CA) and Jenny Kalmbach (Kona, HI) battling it out with local challengers Brandi Baksic (San Clemente, CA) and Gillian Gibree (San Diego, CA)
In addition to the competition, the racers will make the attempt to break two different Guinness World Records. The first being ‘the world’s largest paddleboard race’ and the second being the ‘most surfers riding a single wave.’
