With strong currents, tons of lurking sea creatures, and no standing ground to retreat to, open ocean marathon swims are no easy task. Triathlon athlete Meredith Novack plans on conquering a 20 mile swim from Lanai to Maui, setting a world record on September 22, 2013.
As the first woman to swim the Auau Channel, Novack has been in serious training for the expedition, completing 7-mile training days regularly with the University of Hawai’i Masters Swim Team. The record for men is currently 11 hours and 45min, but the determined former professional triathlete has her mind locked on a quicker time.
Novack is now asking for your help in funding the mission. The expenses she needs to complete the marathon swim totals $5,000 and will cover the crew, captain and boat fees, hotel, airfare for 6, photography, SharkShield, etc. Visit GoFundMe.com/Meredith-Swims-2-Maui, to be a part of setting a new world record.
