Award-winning author, Susan Casey, and American big wave pioneer, Laird Hamilton, will be speaking on behalf of SurfAid in Malibu, California. SurfAid, a non-profit organization aiming to improve the health, wellbeing and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions connected through surfing, is hosting the inspiring event on August 28th, 2013 as part of the Malibu Library Speaker Series.
Casey will be speaking on her most recent New York Times bestseller The Wave: In Pursuit of Rogues, Freaks, and Giants of the Ocean. The book examines the power of the ocean, its ability to conjure monstrous waves, those who dare enough to conquer them, and how all are intertwined with such an unpredictable force of nature.
The event is FREE to attend and funds will be raised by a minimum of $10 donations for a signed copy of “The Wave.”
Commenting on the evening’s festivities, SurfAid USA Executive Director, Randal Schober, said: “We are thrilled to have Susan and Laird speak on behalf of SurfAid and to join in their discussion of the nature of waves, the complexity of the ocean, and how it impacts us all. It will be a great night delving deeply into big wave surfing and beyond.”
All are welcome to attend. There is limited seating, so please arrive early and make a reservation at (310) 456-6438. The talk will be held in the Malibu Library Community Room at 23519 Civic Center Way, Malibu, CA at 7:00 PM.
There will be an after party at Café Habana, located in the Malibu lumberyard.
