The Men’s Junior Pro at the 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing was a mix of new names and faces. Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR), Jake Halstead (USA) and Carlos Munoz (CRI) all made the final for the first time at the US Open of Surfing. Returning to another exciting event was Conner Coffin (USA), the defending US Open Junior Champion. The Santa Barbara native completely dominated in the final this year and made it very apparent that he wanted to take the win in his last year competing on the Junior circuit.
Coffin opened up with a long left, completing a number of turns from start to finish. After a straight up vertical hit to finish off the wave, the judges rewarded him kindly with an 8.17. The heat saw some moments of lulls so wave selection was vital. Carlos Munoz was the only other competitor to challenge Coffin with a 5.83 on a big frontside air in the beginning of the heat and ended his campaign with a nice string of maneuvers on a left. Coffin celebrated his second win at the US Open of Surfing Junior Pro.
