The final for the girls’ Vans US Open of Surfing Junior Pro went down Saturday afternoon in semi-textured waist to chest high waves. The heat was full of action, however, the attention was glued on Bianca Buitendag (ZAF) who came out swinging and received an 8.83 on her opening wave. Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW) also put on a great display of surfing staying busy on both lefts and rights throughout the heat. Her second wave came in at an 8.0 and made it seem as if she was going to challenge Buitendag for the title. Frankie Harrer (USA) and Nikki Van Dijk (AUS) were both left needing two waves in the excellent range to overtake Buitendag within the first half of the heat.
Van Dijk, the defending US Open Women’s Junior champion, was unable to find a decent scoring wave until fifteen minutes into the heat when she took off on a nice right and did an impressive end section float and received an 8.43 to get her out the combo situation. Throughout the heat each girl would catch a wave to improve their situation, but Buitendag would respond by catching a wave to further her lead against the remaining competitors. The young South African competitor scored the top four highest waves of the entire Junior Women competition in the final heat. Buitendag came out on top with Nikki Van Dijk securing second, Tatiana Weston-Webb in third and Frankie Harrer in fourth.
- Bianca Buitendag (ZAF) 18.10
- Nikki Van Dijk (AUS) 16.20
- Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW) 14.27
- Frankie Harrer (USA) 8.74
