The Association of Surfing Professionals 6-Star Ford Supergirl Pro presented by Paul Mitchell has announced its official competition date, which will take place at the Oceanside Pier in Southern California from August 2-4th, 2013. The ASP 6-Star Ford Supergirl Pro is an important opportunity for those surfers attempting to qualify for the 2014 ASP Women’s WCT and will serve as the only event held in North America.
Even Bethany Hamilton will be making the trip from Hawai’i to compete exclusively for the Supergirl Pro title, as her only ASP event of the year. Additional confirmed competitors include: Carissa Moore (HAW), Lakey Peterson (USA), Coco Ho (HAW), Laura Enever (AUS), Malia Manuel (HAW), Paige Hareb (NZL), Sofia Mulanovich (PER), Sage Erickson (USA) and Alana Blanchard (HAW).
Pro surfer on the Oakley team, Ventura native Sage Erickson was crowned the 2012 Supergirl. Will she be able to defend the title and hold on to her cape? Watch the highlights from last year’s event:
“With the Ford Supergirl Pro currently representing the only women’s qualifying event in America, this contest plays a really important role in the girls’ qualification campaigns for next year’s WCT,” said ASP Women’s Tour Manager Jessi Miley-Dyer. “Since this event falls towards the end of the women’s qualifying season, results at the Ford Supergirl Pro could be make-or-break for girls on the qualifying bubble,” she said.
Rick Bratman, CEO of ASA Entertainment, stated, “We are really excited about the return of the Ford Supergirl Pro in 2013… We have been supporting women’s surfing for many years, and with tremendous partners like Warner Bros., Consumer Products, Ford and Paul Mitchell, we are expecting 2013 to be the best Supergirl event ever as well as a building block for future women’s events in the U.S.”
The Ford Supergirl Pro presented by Paul Mitchell is also the second event of the 2013 Supergirl Jam Series, which is the largest all-female competition. The competition will feature more than 150 females who are pros in surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. In addition to that, the event will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net (FSN) during the fall.
