One of the great parts of surfing is getting to experience nature in a way unlike any other. A Sydney surfer this past week got a very up close and personal experience with a southern right whale. The 40-ft mammal drifted among the surfers for a few minutes until it flicked its tail, sending one surfer airborne. Surfer Bishan Rajapakse was knocked unconscious and brought to shore by lifeguards and fellow surfers. The man was not seriously injured and gained consciousness once he made it to the shore.
In light spirits once the injured surfer awoke he said that, “Maybe [the whale] was giving me a high five.”
