In response to the controversial Roxy Pro Biarritz #WhoAmIJustGuess trailer, a French video came out on YouTube today as a parody – an unofficial teaser titled, “#WhoAmIJustSmell.” The controversy has already boosted the original Roxy Pro teaser to over 50,000 video views (last year, there were about 1,000 views on the event teaser). Surfer Magazine published an opinion piece about the video, claiming the trailer to be “All Sexy, No Surfing.” The Inertia boldly titled their viewpoint, “Ass and the Roxy Pro.” Surfers, both men and women, are commenting via social media with their opinion on the daring video and the role of female surfing in advertising.
As a follow-up, the unconventional video parody below makes remark at the role of advertising in the surf world, and puts men in the spotlight this time around. Does sex sell when the gender roles are reversed?
