The El Salvador Pro has officially been upgraded to an ASP 6-Star event and is scheduled to commence next month, July 9 to the 14th. Punta Roca will serve as the stage with a perfect right hand point break for the competitors who are battling for crucial points on the ASP World Series. With so much going for it, Punta Roca has the makings of a world class event which is expected to attract tons of talent this year.
“We’re really happy that the El Salvador government has come on to bring this event to 6-Star status,” Meg Bernardo, ASP North America Executive Manager said. “A perfect wave and 6-Star points will definitely give rising Latino talent the chance to shine as well as attract some of the world’s best surfers to one of Central America’s finest waves.”
Along with sublime international talent expected to attend the El Salvador Pro, the local surge of Latin talent is expected to be equally impressive, giving local pros a stage to showcase their talents on Punta Roca’s perfect waves.
“Over the last few years, we’ve really seen some relatively unknown talent standout at the newer events in Mexico and Central America and begin to make a name for themselves,” Brian Robbins, ASP North America Tour Manager said. “With several Latinos building their profiles in the smaller ASP
events, the heightened 6-Star status in Punta Roca will really allow these up-and-coming surfers the opportunity to establish themselves on the ASP World Ranking alongside the rest of the already established global surfing communities.”
The El Salvador Pro, the second biggest surf tournament on the ASP North American tour in Latin America, follows the Rip Curl Pro in Puerto Rico. Other Pro events, such as Acapulco and Cabo San Lucas are scheduled to unfold this summer as well.
