It was a mournful afternoon on Friday, June 7th, 2013 after a 23-year-old gunman stormed the Santa Monica Community College campus, soon after killing his father and brother at their home and then lighting it on fire. As this last weekend has come to an end, five victims have officially been confirmed dead and one wounded in critical condition.
In order to pay homage to the victims and their families, there will be a candlelight memorial service in front of the SMC library on Monday evening at 6pm. Everyone is invited to bring a candle and share in the moment of silence to remember those who were lost.
The SMC campus is down the street from The Surf Channel headquarters, and especially considering our student interns that attend class there, we are sorry to share news of this tragedy. Many members of the surf community have been effected, with Venice Beach just down the street. Our hearts go out to friends and families of the victims.
