The countdown for the much anticipated Volcom Fiji Pro has begun with June 2nd marking the first day of the 13-day waiting period. With southern swells already beginning to stir, chances are we are going to see some epic waves this year for the ASP World Tour stop at Tavarua. Dusty Payne will be competing in the Volcom Fiji Pro for the first time after recovering from an ankle injury, which prohibited him from participating last year.
Payne explained, “I am so excited to be heading to Fiji for the first time in my career to compete. I’ve watched every event out there and have always wanted to be a part of it. I can’t really put into words how excited I am to be healthy and ready to compete at one of my favorite waves in the world!”
The second wildcard will go to the winner of the local competitions held by Fiji Surfing Association. Last year, Coleborn was able to beat out Kelly Slater during round one of the competition but lost to Joel Parkinson in a close Round 3 battle.
“I’m excited to head back to Fiji and compete as a wildcard at one of the best stops on tour. The waves are amazing and last year was one of the best trips of my life,” said Coleborn.
With only 4 days left, excitement is continuing to build.
