The volunteers with the International Coastal Cleanup not only pick up trash that is endangering the health of humans, wildlife and coastal economies, they count every item.
Ocean Conservancy compiles an annual item-by-item, location-by-location Trash Index to provide a global snapshot of the marine debris. This index allows for identification of the higher problem areas as well as the items that are giving the greatest problems.
Many of the items are commonly found pieces of trash that we use every day from food wrappers to beverage containers and an overwhelming amount of cigarettes.
Some other items found were: 4,159 – Candles
2. 40 – Lottery tickets
2,492 – Sport balls
236 – Toothbrushes
117 – Mattresses
