Surfers put a huge emphasis on protecting the environment, mainly because taking care of the ocean and it’s surroundings directly affects their lives. It’s painful for those who are traveling around the world and visiting awesome surf breaks to see pollution and waste taking over the beauty. RAREFORM founder, Alec Avedissian, went on a six month surf trip with friends and became saddened by the disturbing amount of trash filled beaches, rivers, lakes, and mountains. Avedissian, having a former career in corporate America, decided he could make a positive change on the environment from a business point of view.
Avedissian joined with friends and business partners, Ryan Judy and Sho Rust to create RAREFORM, a company dedicated to reducing waste in the world to help keep surfers’ playgrounds clean. The distinctive quality about RAREFORM is that they create board bags, mats, and covers all with recycled billboards.
Think about the number of billboards that are used and replaced in today’s society. RAREFORM catches these billboards before they reach the landfills and use them to create awesome board bags, mats, and covers.
Not only are these bags eco-friendly and created with only upcycled material, they are all unique with their own rad design! RAREFORM has also joined forces with Patagonia to donate 1% of their sales to benefit the planet.
RAREFORM carries on with their motto to maintain a “continued commitment to the principles that got the whole thing started—quality, sustainability, and style”.
