On May 11th, 2013 the Surfing Heritage and Culture Center Vintage Surf Auction presented by Quiksilver Waterman Collection will show off a rare edition of A.R. Gurrey Jr.’s book, The Surf Riders of Hawaii 1914 on the auction block. Author A.R. Gurrey Jr. is considered the father of surf photography and each of his books contains authentic pictures of surfers with actual silver processed print paper photos. This book is one of the few records of Gurrey’s photographic work and of early surfing in Hawaii. Considered only one of six copies on Earth, this rare little piece of history holds a pre-auction estimate of $25k-40k.
