Storm Surfers 3D has had a huge international impact this past week with the Australian DVD release, including a standing ovation at the Santa Barbara Film Festival screening, and has received multiple awards. The documentary surf film is taking big wave surfing to the big screen.
Storm Surfers follows two best friends on their quest to ride the most dangerous waves around the world. This epic, real-life adventure, narrated by Toni Collete, features Aussie tow-surfing pioneer Ross Clarke-Jones, two-time world champion Tom Carroll and surf forecaster Ben Matson. Together these men track down and chase giant storms across the Great Southern Ocean.
The big wave winter season throws the team into the elements experiencing the brutal force of the ocean, scoring the waves of a lifetime and coming close to death. The team embarks on an expedition to surf the mythical wave known as Turtle Dove Shoal and gives these dare-devils the adventure of a lifetime.
The International 3D Society honored Storm Surfers 3D for the most outstanding achievement in 3D documentary in 2012. This achievement is incredibly remarkable especially knowing that their competition had significantly larger budgets. The groundbreaking technical achievements of the camera team and Deluxe’s post-production crew left quite an impression.

The Australian Academy of Cinema, Television, Arts, AACTAs awarded Storm Surfers 3D the most coveted industry honor the ‘Best-Feature Length Documentary’ award. The film was also honored at the 2013 Surfworld International Surf Film Festival receiving the Peter Troy ‘Spirit’ Award.
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival premiered the film in California to a surf-hungry crowd. Not only were audience members moved to a standing ovation, the Hollywood Reporter described the film as “the best surf film since Step Into Liquid.”
Australian audiences can relive the adventure or experience it for the first time on DVD and Blu-Ray now.
