It’s Super Bowl Sunday and 700 million people will be tuning in to watch the Ravens and 49ers battle it out in New Orleans at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. While we love a good half time show and are sure Beyonce will thrill us all, we are looking forward to another Super Bowl moment: big wave surfing.
We heard a rumor that CBS will be running footage of the big wave competition that took place just south of San Francisco in Half Moon Bay last month, the Mavericks Invitational. Lucky you, we have Surf Channel exclusive raw footage of the comp below.
Fun fact about New Orleans: there is some surfing. Whether it’s Hurricane Katrina swell that the Gulf Coast locals froth over, or the occasional bump that rolls through at Port Fourchon, surfing certainly isn’t out of the question in Louisiana. Now event organizers are bringing big wave surfing to the scene; check out some epic clips of the Mavericks Invitational below and get stoked for possibly a big wave Super Bowl Sunday!
