Jobo’s Beach will be welcoming the ASP 4-Star Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico February 9-13th presented by seepuertorico.com. Local Puerto Rico competitors as well as ASP WCT athletes are growing anxious for the event kick off as it grows closer.
Brian Toth and Dylan Graves will be amongst the top of the pack of local favorites that are competing in the event. The two have grown up together in Puerto Rico as close friends and have pushed each other to create a worldwide notoriety of their surfing talents. Both surfers are excellent competitors and will be battling to potentially win the entire event.
“I’m so grateful for a great event to come to my backyard. I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time,” Toth recently stated. “It would mean a lot to win this event. I was born and raised on this beach, so to win a big competition down here, trust me, there will be horns blowing loud [laughs]. I would love it.”
“That was one of the best things that’s happened to me in my career. Once I won the trials and was in the event, I felt like I had no pressure because there was so much pressure on getting that one spot,” Graves reflected on the 2010 Rip Curl Pro Search.
Graves will be looking to recapture that same form and is excited about the opportunity in the 2013 Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico.
“I’m super pumped to surf in this event. I’ve always wanted to surf a WQS event in my backyard, and so has our whole generation. It’s an awesome opportunity for the surf community down here,” Graves said.
By bringing a premiere, world-class event to their backyard, the event is purposed to inspire the new generation to pursue their surfing talents.
“It’s a huge opportunity for the local kids! It’s a way for all the up and comers to showcase their surfing without having to spend money to travel somewhere else,” Graves said. “We’ve never had anything like this before, except for when the WCT came, but only one person got in the contest. Now everyone can get in and get a piece.”
