Kauai’s Sebastian Zietz (HAW) has had the winter of a lifetime on Oahu’s North Shore this year after solidifying his spot on the ASP WCT and taking home the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing title for 2012. With all of this racing through his mind and barely any time to process his endeavors, we met up with Sebastian Zietz to find out exactly what is next for the young Hawaiian athlete. Zietz talks sponsors, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and the ASP World Championship tour in this exclusive Surf Channel interview below!
This has been an epic week, what has been the best part?
Sebastian Zietz: The best part has probably just been having it be over. Now I can just go home and really relax and let it sink in. It’s really been such a frazzle mess, I haven’t had time to reflect on what happened. I get to go home and relax, take a load off. Job done. (laughs).
What’s on your mind, Vans Triple Crown title or ASP WCT 2013?
Zietz: I definitely think the tour is more important. Just coming into it, you can either get on the tour and fall off, fade away or you can stay on tour for a long time and actually make a good career out of it and have a lot of fun on the way. I’m just more pumped on the tour probably, but winning the Triple Crown is crazy, it’s been crazy.
Are you looking forward to traveling to any specific places?
Zietz: Ya, I love lowers. Lowers is probably my most consistent performances. I love it, it’s a perfect right. I try to go right because they end up being real long and good, ya looking forward to that. Of course, Pipe again, Hawaii again next year is gonna be sick. Teahupo’o, Snapper, everywhere. They all look amazing so.
Tell us about you sponsor, Oakley.
Zietz: The relationship is solid. Oakley has been like a family to me. I’m kind of in the middle of figuring something out for the next couple of years, so I definitely think I’m gonna stick with them. They have been amazing to me, I wouldn’t rather surf for anyone else.
How does it feel to be the most wanted man on the North Shore?
Zietz: Whaat? Am I? Ahh man, well she said it. I don’t know. That’s good to know (laughs).
