American surfer, Brett Bean has gone missing from his rented bungalow in Phuket, Thailand. The parents of the 43 year old, Wayne and Lynne Bean, have grown extremely concerned since he missed his scheduled flight from Phuket back to the Los Angeles, California. They have since requested help from the US Embassy who has sent a flyer to their Phuket wardens and police. The description on the flyer states that Brett Chapman Bean has blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin, height 6’ 2” and includes a photo of Bean. Bean enjoyed surfing, swimming and was said to have been living in Kata-Karon area.
”He was also an animal lover,” says his mother Lynne. ”He fed the homeless dogs on a regular basis. We visited Brett a few years ago in Karon. He was staying in a bungalow. We also spent some time in Kata Beach and Patong. He has moved from that place, but still lives in a similar situation in another bungalow. We have searched through all of his belongings and have not found an address for him.” –Phucketwan.com
Clare Bickerton, Phuket resident and animal lover, believes she saw Bean passing on his motorcycle in Karon this past Saturday. Lynne Bean stated that Clare and Bean knew each other well. Bean often overlapped his trips back to the US with his Swiss neighbor so they could look after each other’s bungalow. The neighbor stated that Bean’s motorcycle had gone missing and that there was washing left hanging outside the bungalow. The neighbor had commented that Bean doesn’t keep a surfboard at the bungalow so it may have been stored close to the beach. Authorities are now questioning Brett’s surfing acquaintances at the southern surfing end of Kata Beach where he often went. The US embassy officials are making arrangements to organize a police search of Bean’s passport or papers that were possible left in the bungalow.
”He told us on November 25 that he had turned off his phone and internet service, as he does every year before he leaves Thailand,” Brett’s mother Lynne said. ”That was the last contact that we had with him.” –Phuketwan.com
Brett Bean spend part of the year in the US working as a ski instructor. He rides a light grey Honda 125cc motorcycle.
