38-year-old Francisco Javier Solorio Jr. passed away on Tuesday morning after being attacked by a shark off the Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California. Officials weren’t clear on the details of the shark at the time, but new information has surfaced from investigators who determined the predator as a great white shark to be approximately 15-16ft in length.
Shark expert from the Shark Research Committee of Chatsworth, Ralph S. Collier, retrieved the details about the shark after examining the distance between tooth marks on the surf board used during the attack as well as the Solorio’s body.
The gates at the beaches of Vandenberg Air Force Base remain locked for the 72-hour closure.
Information released by Los Angeles Times.
Sadly just the day before the attack on Solorio, the family of 19 year old, Lucas Ransom, gathered at Surf Beach to celebrate his life after an attack at the same location 2 years before.
