Billabong athlete and female big wave pioneer, Keala Kennelly, has entered her massive ride at Jaws into the Billabong XXL Awards for 2013. This big wave charger has more than proven herself amongst the male-dominated big wave surfing community, at a time when most women hadn’t even considered participating. Check out her “Billabong Girls Best Performance” entry:
Kennelly was born in Kauai, Hawaii and was the first woman to ever tow in at Teahupo’o. Kennelly continues to drop into unbelievably huge waves despite her horrific wipeout on the razor sharp reef at Teahupo’o just one year ago.
“Keala knows who she is and what she wants, which is why she is able to achieve whatever she sets her mind to.” – Keala Kennelly Website
The year 2007 was important for Kennelly as she received a Gold Medal in the Summer X Games at Puerto Escondido, Mexico, was featured regularly on HBO’s John From Cincinnati show and was recognized as Freesurf Magazine’s Female Surfer of the Year.
