The ASP 6-Star Islas Canarias Santa Pro waiting period will begin in the Spanish Islands on Tuesday, October 23-28th, 2012 in San Juan, Lanzarote. The exclusive European event gathers their best professional surfers to perform at the 2012 regional series on the Canary Islands.
This year’s event will serve an important purpose in deciding the European Champion 2012 as well as determining the qualifiers for the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour.
Lanzarote was absent from the previous season’s schedule and will return this year with $155,000 in prize money, and the mobility to relocate to four different locations to hunt down the perfect waves. This shouldn’t be too much of a concern with an excellent forecast on the way for the entire waiting period, as the 144 athletes compete to qualify for the ASP WCT. Several of the ASP Top 34 members will join the event to defend their position on next year’s tour.
Marlon Lipke (DEU) leads the race for the ASP Europe Title race with two event wins under his belt and is followed closely by Charles Martin (GLP), Glenn Hall (IRE), Romain Cloitre (FRA) and Vincent Duvignac (FRA). When competition commences, Vasco Ribiero (PRT), Guillermo Satt (CHL) and Vicente Romero (ESP) will kick off the first heat.
