The Ford Motor Company has teamed up with non-profit organization Heal the Bay, to offer the community a service that will benefit the environment, described as the Ford Community Changes program. That’s right, those in need of an oil change can attend one of four Ford dealerships in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and give back to their community. The Ford dealers have kicked off a “name-your-price donation” oil change program in which proceeds will benefit one of four Los Angeles non-profit organizations.
Motor oil is extremely toxic. According to Heal the Bay, one quart can contaminate up to 250,000 gallons of drinking water as it contains lead, magnesium, copper, zinc, chromium, arsenic, chlorides, cadmium and chlorinated compounds. Find out more. The project is designed to encourage motor vehicle owners to recycle their used motor oil and never pour it down the drain, in the gutter, or on the ground.
“Together, we’re changing more than oil — we’re changing Los Angeles,” describes the Ford Community Changes program. Ford donates the cost of your next oil change toward Heal the Bay, protecting local waters from dangerous toxins. “Bring in your car (any make or model — it doesn’t have to be a Ford) to one of four dealerships — Galpin (San Fernando Valley), Santa Monica, Sunrise (Greater Los Angeles and Inland Empire), Bob Wondries (San Gabriel Valley) and name your price. Whatever amount you choose to pay will go directly to Heal the Bay’s efforts to keep our waters safe, healthy and clean.” Register now.
The non-profit organizations include: Heal the Bay, Homeboy Industries, Keep a Breast, and the Pablove Foundation. A $20.00 donation to Heal the Bay will provide reusable supplies for volunteers to conduct beach cleanups. Pablove is based out of Silverlake and aims to fight childhood and pediatric cancer with love.
“Your vehicle will be thoroughly inspected for leaks that may cause harm to our oceans and waterways, and your car,” says the Ford Community Changes program.
Those wishing to change their vehicle’s oil and benefit the community will have to complete a quick registration at www.fordcommunitychanges.com. Donators can make donations as little as $20.00, or as large as $150.00.
