After one of the greatest final days of competition in the ASP World Championship Tour this season, a wild final between two American Quiksilver riders – Kelly Slater (Cocoa Beach, Florida) and Dane Reynolds (Ventura, California) – displayed the talents of possibly the two best surfers ever. 11x champ Kelly Slater beat Australian #2 ranked Joel Parkinson in the Semis to move on to meet Reynolds in the final of the Quiksilver Pro France 2012 in epic barrels in Hossegor. The victor was the King himself, able to find the right waves to secure his first Quiksilver Pro win in France.
Thousands of people lined the French beach to watch the match-up. It’s great to see such support for the sport of surfing, as fans witnessed one of the best shows competitive surfing has to offer in an American final of the Quiksilver team stars.
Dane Reynolds broke one of his boards in his Semi-final match-up with Hawaiian John John Florence, and ended up surfing the final with a hand shaped surfboard – a magic stick… but not magic enough to beat the 11x world champion, and the new winner of the Quiksilver Pro France, Kelly Slater. Still an incredible competition and one for the record books.
