This Saturday, September 15th, the Mauli Ola Foundation brought the Surf Experience Day to Malibu, California. The Mauli Ola Foundation is an organization that gives kids with cystic fibrosis and other genetic disorders the opportunity to surf with professional surfers at no cost to their families. The Surf Experience Day is exactly that, a day for kids to enjoy the therapeutic affects of surfing on the human mind and body with the help of professional athletes. Mauli Ola has dedicated the past five years to nearly 100 Surf Experience Days where they have taken 1,300 cystic fibrosis patients surfing as therapy. With hundreds of volunteers to support them, the organization plans on holding more than 10 Surf Experience Days in 2013.
The organization has also made over 77 hospital visits to impact the lives of children with cancer and many other health concerns to expand their outreach. The Mauli Ola Foundation sends professional athletes to the pulmonary wards at the hospitals to cheer up the kids with singing, painting, talking about surfing and unforgettable experiences.
The Mauli Ola Foundation is proud to be the benefiting charity of the 2012 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing in Oahu, Hawaii. With the huge surf event, the organization also has a large team of riders to represent, including: Alex Gray, Shawn “Barney” Barron, Buttons Kaluhiokalani, CJ Kanuha, Derek Ho, Gavin Beschen, Hans Hagen, Jamie O’Brien, Jason Magallanes, Josh Baxter, Kala Alexander, Kalani Robb, Kealii Mamala, Kelly Slater, Makua Rothman, Michael Ho, Morgan Faulkner, Nathan Fletcher, Nissen Osterneck, Reno Makani, Sunny Garcia, Teddy Navarro and Torrey Meister.
This weekend the Mauli Ola Foundation brought the Surf Experience day to Surfrider Beach in Malibu for some fun, music and memories! The event ran from 9am -12pm Saturday and the Mauli Ola Foundation crew invited everyone to join them for lunch at Dukes afterwards. The fun went into the night at the Malibu Inn where Robert Francis performed live!
