“A father exiled from his country, a son exiled from his father…” – Alekesam (A film by Jason Bergh)
Surf and music industry personnel, as well as family and friends, packed Sonos Studio on Wednesday August 22nd, 2012 from 7-10pm for the screening of professional surfer and musician, Sal Masekela’s newest film by Jason Bergh.
The film features Sal and his father, Hugh Masekela, legendary jazz musician and activist, as they journey to discover Sal’s musical talent. The father and son walk the audience through the struggles of show business and the reasons Sal persevered through his surfing and ESPN X Games career. After attendees had the pleasure of viewing the Oakley sponsored film, Sal shared personally what the film meant to him and his emotional trek when creating it.
To end the night impressively, Sal previewed five songs from his very first album named The Sound of Alekesam. Sal and his crew jammed for attendees as they danced to the unique tribal, jazzy beats and enjoyed drinks at the bar.
