Don’t miss the 23rd Annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic and Luau!
The Doheny Longboard Surfing Association presents the 23rd Annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic Competition this Saturday, August 25th, 2012 at Doheny State Beach in Southern California. Last year’s event included longboard surfing, paddle racing, stand-up paddle racing and even a tandem surf contest!
Legendary surfer, Dale Velzy, nicknamed “The Hawk,” was the surf industry’s first commercial board shaper. Velzy grew up surfing as a local in Southern California in Manhattan, Hermosa and Palos Verdes Surf Clubs. Today, we celebrate his incredible life with family and friends of all ages for a day of fun competition, relaxation and socializing on the beach.
Not only do all participants get to enjoy the impressive, friendly competition, the Doheny Longboard Surfing Association hosts a Luau with Polynesian dancing and delicious food! The contest starts at 7am to start the day and the Luau follows at 3pm, with dinner served from 5-6pm.
The Doheny Longboard Surfing Association puts on several events each year to celebrate surfing and surf culture, including Oceanside’s Contest/Noseriding Event and the MSA Coalition Event. Don’t miss this exciting day of surf, family and fun!
