Growing up on a farm, Irish big wave surfer Fergal Smith values the simplicity of a self-sustaining lifestyle. Though leaving his hometown for some time to travel the world in search of a variety of waves, Smith has returned to Ireland, remaining true to his roots in hopes to raise a family the same way.
His father worked day in and day out growing organic vegetables in their backyard, and was always around in Smith’s life. Now the Irish surfer truly appreciates and understands the meaning of a family, and chooses that lifestyle over money.
Smith now houses a community garden on his farm Moy Hill to be give back to others and help teach the same lesson about what is important in life.
Desillusion presents, ‘We are Nowhere, and it’s Now’ by Pierre David:
“Growing up on the farm, I feel so lucky that was our childhood. I am not saying it is the best way but it’s a very happy, healthy lifestyle.”-Fergal Smith
