Freesurf Magicbrands athlete, Binho Nunes, spends the winter training on the North Shore of Hawai’i looking for the waves of his life. The Brazilian surfer from Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, began surfing in Itanhaém inspired by legends like Christian Fletcher; Tom Curren, Wagner Pupo and Dadá Figueiredo. While Pipeline and Puerto Escondido are some of his favorite breaks, Nunes also surfed Sunset Beach rights this winter. When the swell is big, Sunset can take you on a nasty washing machine ride and things don’t always go as planned… as Nunes found during this wipeout – our “Photo of the Week.”

“Not everything goes as planned, like flying on the inside of Sunset in the fall of my life,” Nunes said. Unfortunately, this fall took its toll on the Brazilian surfer and left him injured unable to surf.
“This wipeout cost me a torn internal ligament in my knee, nothing serious, but I paid the price…. Hawai’i consisted of barrels, the photo of a lifetime, a broken toe and torn knee!”
Nunes spent 5 days out of the water with a splint.
“Getting tubed backside on the inside of Sunset is sinister, because the force of the water is out of this world… a lot of water and boiles everywhere. You have to use large surfboard in order to paddle in, but if you hit the right spot and get in the tube, it is like winning the lottery.”
In addition to a pro surfer, Binho Nunes loves skateboarding and listening to rock music. He desires to live a life of tranquility and enjoy every moment.
